A Technical Foundation for Trust: Solving the Toughest Problems in Data Privacy

Ethyca announces fundraise, doubles annual revenue with new enterprise clients, and reveals new brand.

Cillian Kieran, CEO EthycaAt Ethyca, we recognize that trust in the digital age relies on more than just policy. It relies on a robust technical foundation. People’s activity and preferences are constantly logged, updated, synced, modified and recorded online, on millions of websites. This is why we believe that, today, trust has become technical: personal actions and preferences are physically stored and modified, which requires us to frame data privacy less as “trust management” and more as “privacy engineering.” Trust arises from privacy, which is built in code.

This observation is important as today, with modern privacy regulations enveloping 75% of the world’s population, we stand at a pivotal moment in the evolution of the concept of data privacy. The journey of privacy began decades ago, marked by the U.S. Privacy Act of 1974 and the OECD Guidelines in 1980. With the internet boom and data monetization by firms like Facebook and Google, public scrutiny intensified. Major breaches—Cambridge Analytica, Marriott, Capital One—illustrate the consequences of insufficient data governance.

These breaches and other major headlines over the past decades underscore the level of complexity inherent in handling this data, and demonstrate the public fallout that occurs when data is not adequately understood and thoughtfully structured.

“We will continue to redefine how organizations engage with data privacy and data trust—not as a constraint but as an opportunity to create trust and unlock potential.”

Fundamentally, data privacy and governance are engineering challenges. Compliance is no longer solely a legal matter; it requires deep technical expertise. Point solutions and fragmented tools fail to address the systemic nature of data privacy and governance. What’s needed is an approach that unites engineering and legal teams under a common framework—an integrated methodology that empowers organizations to stay compliant, protect user data, and drive growth.

A Technical Foundation for Trust

Our mission is to solve the most technical challenges of privacy, trust and data protection. We are a partner in building systems that prioritize transparency and integrity, amplifying human decision-making and fostering trust. The new era of data privacy demands solutions that are comprehensive, adaptable, and designed for scale—a foundation on which enterprises can confidently build data-driven growth.

Today we are proud to announce a $10 million funding round in partnership with Aspenwood Ventures and AVP. This investment is a watershed moment for Ethyca that will allow us to capitalize and act on the new world of data privacy. To continue partnering with the world’s leading companies, acting as the collaboration layer between their engineering and legal teams to help them solve the toughest problems in data privacy. We are thrilled to welcome Mozilla, Axios and Ramp as our newest clients.

These institutions join the Ethyca ranks of other industry leaders – New York Times, X, Mediavine, Casper and many more. Working with these companies, we deliver on our vision to become the world’s most trusted technology company – and to be the reason that business itself is more trusted. We aim to create a ripple effect that transforms how businesses operate and how they’re perceived. We aspire not just to build the best technology, but to build a technical foundation for trust upon which our society can operate at large.

“We view data privacy and governance as an engineering challenge. Compliance is no longer solely a legal matter; it requires deep technical expertise.”

Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited by our continued growth–exemplified by this funding milestone and new partnerships. We remain committed to advancing technology that provides clarity to complexity. We will continue to redefine how organizations engage with data privacy and data trust—not as a constraint but as an opportunity to create trust and unlock potential. Let’s build this future together, where trust is embedded into every digital interaction.
